Centering Prayer Introductory Program
Centering Prayer is a receptive method of Christian silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, a prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself.
The method of Centering Prayer will be presented and time allowed for practice of the prayer. Come and discover the meaning of, “Be still and know that I am God,” Psalm 46.
When: Saturday, March 29, from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (light lunch included). The day of the week and time for four weekly follow-up sessions will be scheduled by group consensus.
Where: St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 6680 Crestway Dr., San Antonio, TX 78239, in the Family Center building behind the sanctuary. Meet in the Scott Room.
Cost: Love offering. Enrollment is limited to 30 attendees. Registration is required. Call the church office at 210-654-1643 or email pa@sjnsa.org. Attendees are encouraged to purchase a copy of Open Mind, Open Heart, 20th Anniversary Edition by Fr. Thomas Keating in advance. A limited number of books will be available for purchase on site.
The program will be presented by practitioners of the prayer who are affiliated with Contemplative Outreach, Ltd.
Retreats: A time apart with God…
In the midst of our busy lives, it is important to take time apart with God. Like any relationship, our relationship with God is deepened and enriched by some focused, devoted time.
The Contemplative Outreach and various chapters host a variety of Centering Prayer retreats ranging from half-day “dips into silence,” to multi-day residential intensive retreats.

“As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.”
